About Joe Loux

Joe and Katie Loux specialize in ancient and ethnic jewelry of Asia and North Africa. We offer textiles and sculpture from China, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. Areas of special interest include ancient gold from China and Southeast Asia, ethnic minority textiles of Southwest China, and Indian and Moroccan jewelry. Our collection is strong in Li textiles from Hainan Island and Yi textiles from Yunnan and Sichuan. Our collection of Chinese Nuo masks from the southern provinces is exceptional.  We also offer Chinese folk art from all over the country, with an emphasis on toggles, belt ornaments and scholar's objects from rural China.

Our collecting of jewelry began with a practical interest in buying small, portable objects from areas of travel and evolved into a passion for tribal jewelry of the world. We are interested in jewelry worn by living people, and adornments for the afterlife. We offer jewelry that is wearable and jewelry that acts like sculpture.

Joe and Katie are private dealers in San Francisco. Avid travellers, they offer rare and authentic material, much of which has been field collected.

Katie was formerly Deputy Editor of HALI magazine, the leading international publication on antique carpets, textiles and Islamic art, and continues to work for HALI and Cover  magazines as a freelance writer.

We are members of San Francisco Tribal.  We are also members of the American Tribal Art Dealers Association (ATADA), and participate in prestigious fairs throughout the United States.
